An exploration of how artistic insight and flair turned the tables on the fate of a dying 150 year old textile mill, lost in the French Pyrenees.
Through the lines and landscapes of France, Japan, New York, Melbourne and Sydney we discover how designer Henri Quinta and his wife Françoise transformed a dying textile mill into an international success, whilst adamantly holding onto its traditions.
Having acquired the factory when it was on the verge of closing down simply to prevent a local tradition from dying out, and knowing nothing about textiles, Henri and Françoise were determined to retain the same production methods using the original weaving looms, in the same century-old factory in the tiny village of St Laurent de Cerdans, ‘lost’ in the southern French Pyrenees. Barely a year later, however, the fabrics were already being exported abroad and demand just kept growing.
‘Lines and Landscapes’ takes us on a journey to discover how Henri’s coloured pencils, a sharp artistic eye and the couples’ passion have transformed these traditional fabrics into an international success, inspiring designers and creators around the world.
